Links and Locations
Dresden's reputation as a "Pearl" of European architecture
dates back to August the Strong in the 18th century. Under the
Elector's influence Dresden was transformed into one of the most
exquisite royal residences in Europe. The Zwinger, the Taschenberg
Palais, the church of our Lady as well as the Semper Opera house
are just a few impressive testimonies of Dresden's Baroque and
Classicist period. Dresden has undergone extensive restoration
after having been severely damaged during World War II and will
celebrate its 800th anniversary in 2006. The Florence of the East
with its distinctive Elbe silhouette will arise to past magnificence
and glory. With the German re-unification in 1989 Dresden was
able to establish itself as one of the leading centres of culture
and the fine arts in Europe.
Guided tours of the city are available in eight languages and
Dresden can be seen from a different perspective during a paddle-steamer
tour on the river Elbe.
Events and incentives are an important issue in an economic centre
like Dresden. Whether it's a medieval banquet or an elegant dinner
in the company of Countess Cosel and August the Strong, Dresden
and the Radisson SAS Gewandhaus Hotel will make every event unique
as well as unforgettable.
The magnificent castle of Moritzburg, the world famous porcelain
manufactory of Meissen and the blooming gardens of Pillnitz castle
are within easy reach and worth a visit. The Saxon Switzerland
offers rock climbing as well as various other outdoor activities.
Further afield, the golden city of Prague is close enough for
a day trip. |
