| Frauenkirche : Visible
from far and wide, the cupolas of the Gothic Metropolitan and Parish Church
of Our Lady are Munichs most famous landmark. Marienplatz and Glockenspiel : Ever since the citys foundation the Marienplatz (St Marys Square) has been Munichs focal point and "living room. It is dominated by the Neo-Gothic Town Hall with the glockenspiel in its tower, which plays every day at 11, 12 and 17h. Hofbräuhaus : The worlds most famous pub was founded by Duke Wilhelm V, who established a brewery to supply his court with beer. A cheerful atmosphere is guaranteed, no matter whether you choose the Schwemme lounge, the Beer Garden or the Festival Hall. Schloss Nymphenburg : This Baroque schloss was the summer residence of the Bavarian kings and the birthplace of King Ludwig II. The magnificent interior décor, Ludwig IIs "Gallery of Beauty and the spacious park with its canals, lakes and secluded little garden palaces make Schloss Nymphenburg one of the citys top tourist attractions. Olympiapark and Stadium : The 3km2 sports complex was created specially for the 1972 Summer Olympics. The stadium with its daring canopy roof and the 290m broadcasting tower are now firmly established as city landmarks. Today, the Olympic complex is a venue for sporting events, concerts, events and festivals that attract thousands of spectators to Munich. |
